I am installing my old 4870x2 into my fathers pc . The card has an 8 and 6 pin conectors, but the power supply which is an sps epsilon 700 only has 2 6 pin conectors. Am i right in thinking that the extra 2 pins on the 8 conector are only extra earths and i can use the 6 pin conector in the 8 pin socket ???

great but just so you know, the 6pin provides 75w of power whereas the 8pin provides a maximum of 150w. The extra pins are ground but they are polarised differently so you can't, if i understand correctly, plug a 6 pin into a 8 pin connector. Not that I've ever tried this. 6 to 8 power converters are available for a few quid.

Do you mean the shape and the layout of the pins? If so then a 6pin will fit just fine into one side of an 8pin socket. Many PSUs with 8pins have two "break-away" pins to make them into 6pin plugs...

However, plugging in 2 x 6pins when a graphics needs 6 + 8 will probably just result in the usual missing power lead message (in red text) that appears even before the BIOS POST screen.

might want to brush up on your spelling and grammar too dude xD

At 47 its way too late for that. But you try spelling with two three year old snapping at your ankles, and reading two open windows at the same time .....

Some people don't sit in solitary in front of there computers with nothing to do but spellcheck ;)
