Still interested to know why you didn't just get a smart metre instead as that'd have been free and been even more accurate?

But i had a similar surprise when i got my smart meter, our house was sat at around 400w idle so after a bit of poking around i got it to about 130w.

Briefly said this above but issues with 1.5/2ft solid stone walls throughout and signal issues with internal meter placement - wasn't exactly built with signal in mind in the early 1800s!

I think I'll be able to trim a bit off but not much, networking kit and a couple of servers probably adds up quickly!

Ah yeah i ended up replacing some switches and turning off an AP in my garage when i realised and worked out how much it cost, my server was puling about 120w continuously so i replaced with a USDT type which pulls 7w while on and then set it all go to sleep when not in use now.

As an update to this, I did end up making my own based on a project that I found out online. Got something up and running and seems accurate enough for my purposes (aka not 100% and seems to have a 30W flutter at points but good enough for rough gauge of house usage). Got the CT clamp around the mains incoming live and getting some reasonable results out. Only downside is now I know that the base background power usage of stuff in the house is about 450w - ouch! Just need to make a home assistant sensor to calculate the ongoing kwh usage for the energy dashboard charts.

Any chance of a bit of a write up and list of required kit etc? Id' be interested in having a look at doing something like this.

I've been using a Shelly EM along side Grafana in home assistant. Still needs a bit of tweaking but seems to be doing what I want it to for now.

One CT round the mains and one round the heat pump, then I have two Knightsbridge smart wifi plug on the chest freezer and washing machine.

I found a dashboard template on Grafanas website and butchered it to suit my entites etc.

Whats the poll rate on those plugs and shelly for home assistant? Can you make them near instant readings?
