currently the only real game i play is cs:source and ive got an x1900xt which uses far too much power up for that one game, can anyone reccomend a cheap card that will run source on full and use a lot less electricity, i also have an x1800xt in my brothers rig(hes not a gamer), should i just use that? and what would be a cheap card to replace into his system that could also run source because i might use his rig from time to time

Get the X1950 Pro.

It will use even less electricity when you have to pack it up and RMA it :p

uh what does this mean? do they fail a lot? what about the 7900GS isnt that in between an x1800xt and an x1900xt and uses a lot less power?

It depends on what size the actual die is and other considerations. Its not as simple as better graphics card = more power used. There is a link in these forums somehwere to an external site which has power consumption for graphics card. Someone will know where it is.

looks like ill be stuck with these power hungry cards its not worth selling them since the x1950 pro's cost more brand new than what they are worth, plus i would be getting a much slower card, ill wait a year and just get an 8600 or something

7600GT the champ for power per watt

Nvidia 7600gs passive, remember speed step and amd coolnQuiet plus various other tweaks could cut power consumption more that 50%

omg im such a noob well ive been tryin 2 cut power usage and i just realised that, speedstep and cool and quiet werent enabled on the other 2 rigs, just enabled them so that should cut power usage to minimum ont hose rigs, mine was running at a 3.6ghz overclock, now put it back to stock 2.4ghz and enabled speedstep, i dont need 3.6ghz for msn and watching movies, if i ever decide to encode some movies i suppose i could just either wait longer or re-enable the overclock

Within reason there is no problem having say a conroe OC @ 3.3 speed and voltage stepping back for desktop and meanial apps...All mine are ;)

Might be the fact that on this Forum theres a lot of Young people that don't pay or even see the electric bill ! That the subject does not crop up more often
