Power consumption

Hi All,

Quick question if i may.
I'm after a ball park figure of what the following rig would consume wattage wise.??

AMD X4 840
16GB RAM
5 WD RE hard disks in RAID array
PERC 5 Raid card
Radeon PCI card

Looking to get our electricity bill down and may have to sell my ESX server if it turns out to be this that's costing us

Just checked the WD site and each drive averages 10 Watts so there's 50 already

At max it will draw 250W maybe?

It'll depend on how busy the server is.

For reference I've got a Dell PE840 (Q6600) running with a PERC5 and a total of 7 drives (4 x 150GB Velociraptors, and 3 x 2TB Green Seagates). It's running Windows SBS 2011 and generally runs at about 130 Watts at the wall. With current electricty pricing that's about £120/year.

The only reliable way to tell is a plug-in power meter. They aren't very expensive, and you can spend a happy day finding out where your power really is going.

Realistically what's the best from the wall power draw can you expect with a simple 2 disk server config for say mine craft server?
