Power Cut

Actually, having let the dust settle (and taking into consideration my earlier scepticism), I'm now aware that an awful lot of people have suffered powercuts all across the country - and the distributors are saying that they just weren't getting any electricity themselves. The next few hours should be interesting (at least in my office!).

It was a national Grid power outage issue. It affected all my place of work's 2g and 3g cell sites in the greater london area. it took about 50 minutes to resolve.

Thousands of homes and businesses in East Anglia were left without power this morning after problems at two power stations.

The situation also affected parts of London and the north-west of the country because of a shortage of electricity on the National Grid.

Beccles and Halesworth were among the areas of East Anglia without power from 11.30am to 12.30pm today.

A National Grid spokesman said: “Two power stations came off the network unexpectedly within two minutes of each other, shortly after 11.30am this morning. This caused a drop in frequency.

“The system is designed to protect the majority of UK electricity demand, by automatically disconnecting a small proportion of demand to bring frequency back to safe operating levels.

“All available electricity generation was brought onto the system as soon as possible and we are now working with the electricity distribution network operators to reconnect customers as possible.”

She refused to say which power stations were affected, or why, citing “commercial confidentiality”.

There had already been power cuts across the region after heavy rain and wind over the weekend.

How can they get away without explaining the cause? They going to play the terrorism threat card as it may expose a weak point in the grid?

May i ask how you posted that, with a powercut?

Laptop (with 3g access), mobile/PDA/smartphone with 3g access.

There are numerous ways.

How can they get away without explaining the cause? They going to play the terrorism threat card as it may expose a weak point in the grid?

It was loosly explained. Two stations had problems, and the grid basically ran out of power in numerous areas of the country.

National News likely to get hold of this and blow it all out of proportion by making it about fossil fuels?
