Hi, I just built 2 identicle systems, both showing the same problem. Has anyone seen this before :

I've not had either machine boot properly yet. Using Corsair HX 520W with Abit IP35. Press the power button and the machines will power up (lights and fans) for a couple of seconds, then power down. Then up and will then initiliase the display etc.

I've checked all connectors etc. Are there issues between these particular parts?

(There are further problems, but I'll put them in a more specific thread.)

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

I have exactly the same thing happening on a new build of mine, i thought it was some new fangled safety feature :) Got the Abit P35-E board.

Do you think this could be why im getting MEMORY_MANAGEMENT errors when trying to instal windows? (theres literally nothing on there atm).

Sorry for the hijack, im just guna steal ideas people suggest for you anyway ;)

have you guys got some differnt ram you can try?.
had this on my gigabyte ds4 and geil ram, ihad to use some old ram to boot in to bios and change ram volts from 1.8 to 2.1.
good luck

Unfortunatly i dont as its DDR2, upgraded from S939 :( I have tried both sticks individually but nothing changed.

Got the OCZ ram with the silver mesh type sides (no idea what theyre for, looks groovy tho).

I do have a rather idiotic question however, i want to download memtest86, load it on a floppy and boot from that. Is this possible before anythings installed, if its worth doing can someone tell me which version i should download and if its as simple as just copying the files onto the disk?

Many thanks :)

the double boot thing is a common problem its been mention on here a lot i think its fixable with bios update but not 100% certain.

I don't think it's a problem as such, it's just a characteristic of the ABit boards. I actually suspect it's an overclocking checking/management function to see if the "current" settings will allow a successful boot, before actually booting. My board also does this and it doesn't cause any other problems. (I'm on the latest BIOS.)

Make sure you set the memory voltages correctly, several boards these days undervolt RAM causing instability and sometimes failure to boot.

In response to memtest, it runs off a bootable disk, so you dont even need a hard drive installed. I have a copy on a bootable CD.
Spacedman - I would try memtest, as its possible you have faulty ram. Check that its running at the specified Volts. I know the GeIL ULL ram needs 2.1v to work correctly. (+0.3v)

Hi Guys, I've managed to find the solution myself. The issue is know as "Double boot". It's a fault with the bios (and some other IP35 chipsets that manage their own straps). Bios 14 is meant to fix the problem for the Abit IP35 and IP35-E. It was released at the end of November 07. BUT it will still do it the first time you turn it on after plugging the power cord in.
