power line adapter brands

using the same homeplugs trasnferring a file between my NAS and Server (through homeplugs and 2 switches) i get between 6.5 - 8MB/s

but as Woden mentioned above it looks as if youve only got a 10/100 port on your computer also

ah right, so it's my actual Ethernet on my pc. Even if i got the 500+ ones, i'd still only see 100mbps?

my mobo seems to be able to do gigabit:

LAN Intel®, 1 x Gigabit LAN Controller(s)

so if i want higerspeeds etc i think i need the 500+ version...

im not sure,

my pc is connected to a switch and then to a PA411 homeplug, through the mains to another PA411 homeplug and then to a switch into my router and it shows 1.0Gbps as you can see.

cool, i think i have a rough idea of what i actually want now, although my current one does the job i'd rather gigabit. any other decent brand for around £80?

I think the reason the 411s with 100Mb ports exist is because you generally do not get faster than 100Mb/s with 500Mb powerline adapters. First thing is the 500Mb is the highest speed they can get when transferring in both directions (uploading+downloading at same time), the best they can do when transferring files one direction is 250Mb/s. They will probably only manage near this speed if connected right next to each other, if being used in different rooms then the speed will probably half again.

So the 100Mb port versions will get you the same speeds as the 1000Mb port version if they are being used any distance apart. (I have the 1Gb passthrough ones and I still only get 6-8MB/s when transferring files through them)

how far from each other are yours?

i get 6-8MB/s on the 411's but the gap is around 3-4 mtrs.

about 6 metres, I was not that impressed considering the cost, but it is still 2MB/s faster than wireless n for me so I can not complain.

You need to use the TP-Link software to see what speed the homeplugs are syncing at, Windows can only see the speed between the PC and the homeplug.

edit. screw it, i'm just going to get the 500+ version. seems better overall. thanks for all the help, i will respond when i get the new ones

change of mind again, i went for the devolo 500 av mini with gigabit connection but without pass through but no issue. will try them after work!

ok, so the infinity 2 router needed resetting as Ethernet ports 2/3 weren't working.. my dad took port 1 back for his pc! but all working ok now..

It's now showing 1gbps

I'm not sure the extra £46 was worth it, but I got the results i want so far.

Does anything else change if i use cat6 ethernet cable rather cat5e that's provided?

its good its showing 1.0Gbps now.

i dont think the cat6 would make any difference.
