when i turn of the pc to turn it back on i have to pull ouy the mains cable and leave it for a good 10-15 minutes before it will start, leaving it overnight with the cable plugged in does not work

led on mobo does come on
akasa true blue psu

any thoughts to what may be the cause

when it first happened i stripped the pc down disconnecting drives etc one at a time to see if i could pin point the culprit

That really is an odd one although I have heard of this before but can't remember the outcome.

Are you sure it not going into standby?

There where some shutdown problems on early versions of XP. You are upto to date on hotfixes with SP2 yeah?

What motherboard is it?

Also, check you have ACPI enabled in the BIOS.

Then head over to Power Option in Control Panel. Click on the APM tab, then check the "Enable Advanced Power Management support."

Whilst there, check all your other power settings too making sure it's not going into hibernation or somthing silly.

used to have the same problem, turned out to be the motherboard not sitting in the case correctly and shorting out, psu refused to turn on.

Is the problem only after you have used it, or does it happen from cold?

I'm thinking dodgy PSU.. some sort of thermal cut-out as it get too hot or something. Is the fan spinning in the PSU?

Sounds like the capicitor has gone.. It's not building up to or sustaining the correct supply which is prehaps the reason it takes time. A bit like the old TVs :)
