Hi Folks;

Was happily using my PC today; as one does

Loaded GTR and it thought about it for a fair old while; I didnt think anything of it, because i had a load of other apps open; then Pooof, PC powered down :eek:

So doing some basic troubleshooting I can tell you thus:

PSU is an enermax infiniti with Active Protection Stuffs; The symptom is that it just sits in its active protection alert state, giving me 2 beeps, pause, 2 beeps and a wonderful red light.

I tried changing the power source; even ran an extension cable from the UPS for my server; and still the same. I started unplugging internal components, HDD, followed by the fans, memory, even removed the GPU, still the same. This was after a 15min power unplugged period ofc.

When PSU is unplugged from mobo, the indicator stays orange, and it doesnt do anything. As soon as it is plugged into the board, it goes green for ~2sec while it does its check, then back into protective state. Even whilst its in protective state, my USB ports seem to power up.

So: what has gone wrong, anyone got any guesses?
Its either PSU or board, I cant see any obvious damage to either, but the PC could use a good tank of compressed air. Its absolutely bizarre, cause my PC has been in this configuration for months, and routinely has uptime > 1mo between reboots... and tonight it went... All I wanted to do was a couple of laps :(

It does look like the PSU has gone my Enermax went bang before christmas.
Is it possible to check in another pc or test another psu in this pc?

Aye; That'll be my next step; will see if the PSU powers my media box...

I dont really want to plug my hiper in if something is damaged inside; since there's a strong chance of explosion with those :/

Seems to be the power supply; tried powering my media box, and recieved exactly the same symptoms as my main box. I guess its off to Enermax for RMA.

They were fairly quick with my RMA, sent email Thursday night, received email Friday lunch time with an RMA number.
Shipped Monday received new PSU wednesday!!

Downside the postage cost

aye; I emailed them last night; got a response this morning, and it'll go off shortly RMSD. I hope it'll be back early next week.

Ok; so RMSD was £20+... so I scrapped that and went with 1st class signed for; still £8.
Posted ~3pm 28th, they sent a new one out by courier on 29th, which arrived this morning. They also chucked in couple of useful velcro cable ties.

For service like that; Im more than willing to be a repeat customer! :D
