I bought a new power adaptor for a laptop as the old one was clearly overheating and causing problems. Thsi seemed to do the trick - happy days.

After about two months, the new one is doing the same. However, I have noticed the cable from the adaptor to the laptop is very hot.. What could be causing this?

Yes I am thinking battery, or maybe the charging cct. Try taking the battery out and run it from the adaptor only.

Of course it could be a problem with the power regulator cct on the laptop motherboard.

in my experience, Hot cables almost always indicate a short somewhere - people mistreat laptop power adapters and they get damaged so quickly.
