Power Problem

hey guys. on the power supply, it had +12V DC1 and +12V DC2 both at 16amp. Is this waht is meant by dual rail? Also now, instead of powering off, whilst trying to load/install W7 it just freezes.

That site link said:
* Very poor efficiency
* Lack of active power factor correction
* Failure of the 3V3 and 5V0 DC lines at high loads
* Internal power supply transformer buzz at high loads

Sounds nastier than I thought.

I read somewhere that the 5830 card is apparently built around a failed 5870 chip so it drinks lots and lots 12v DC power, more than the 5850 it seems.

That ModXStream price is very good and the PSU is modular too, so that's a bonus.

AC7 rev. 2 comes with a PWM fan I think and so on some mobo the fan won't come on until the CPU is heating up. Load up your pc and run some intensive apps and see if it spins up. That is if you can get your power issue sorted of course. As said the cpu with heatsink properly installed is not going to overheat in seconds so won't be causing the crash. In your case it sounds 99% like a PSU issue, get a decent 500w (Corsair, OCZ, Antec, Seasonic...etc) and it should be sorted. Even better if you have a spare PSU to test.

Best of luck.

Doesn't it just tealc! I think what the OP did was to get the better GPU in his budget he bought a cheap PSU thinking 650Watts is ample. That OCZ should suit the spec at a reasonable cost.

Lesson learned I think

With a bit of luck the Atrix PSU is still under 7 day cooling off and he can return under distance selling RMA.

Well if that's the case, even better. I didn't realise it was a recent purchase! Refund will help fund the OCZ PSU. I think the OP owes you an alcoholic beverage my friend ;)

The old PSU was off my old system guys. I was just being a cheap scape.
Thanks for all of your help too guys.

I would get the OCZ as it is a recognised brand. I tried to find the specs on the linked psu but couldnt find anything. Wonderworld as I like to call it don't stock decent gear, now this psu may work but I think in the long run the OCZ is a much better investment.

Your welcome btw

Remove that link, no competitors allowed. Not sure if that PSU is a good brand... Why can't you just order online from OcUK? It'll be cheaper, and it'll only take about three days to deliver.

I have to remind myself sometimes! To the OPs credit he did say he purchased parts from Ocuk, you can understand him being anxious to get the rig running.

The recomended PSU has been purchased gents. I made an error with the shipping though so instead of getting it to come tomorrow it will come monday. Appologies once again for the link. was just being impatient. Lets just hope it was a PSU problem.

hey guys. just got the recomended PSU. put it in and.... gets to the windows screen ad dies. however. to get graphics in the first place, im having to wobble my 5830 about could it be a gfx prob?
