Hi, have a problem with my pc where it wont switch on from cold until after a few minutes and then it will come on as usual. I switch the mains on then press the power button and nothing . Does this every time without fail, think it's either the mb or psu. Any ideas? Can I rule out either one easily?

Thanks.

if you have another one to test it with then yes, psu first as m/b will be a totaly different kettle of fish.

run a few benchmark / testing programs will or may give a few pointers, check windows error logs and post results

Would help people to help you if you could tell us the make and model of the Psu and mobo in question.
Do you have a spare Psu or know someone you could lend you one, to rule out the mobo.
Does the Psu turn on straight away?

Hi, thanks for replys the psu is a hec 550td-pte and mb foxconn p45al. I have ran OCCT stress testing software and on power supply and gpu mode will cause the pc to crash but only when running a direct x10 simulation (direct x9 works fine). The video card is a ati radeon 4890. I'm going to try and test the psu on it's own to see if it will come on when cold and if it does then I think it is a mb problem.

Just had a very similar problem and it was faulty stick of RAM. Have you double checked that also?

I found the issue because the machine would not turn on.
Removed a stick of RAM. Up in came. Re-Inserted.... nothing.

Just another thought may not be the case as it sounds you have already zeroed in.
