i wouldnt trust the OcUK PSU to power a case fan. unknown brand PSU's are a complete no-no. i'd go for the XFX you chose, or if you want a modular PSU the antec 650W modular for £5 more
your dads computer. this is a video of a huntkey PSU (probably not yours) trying to output the power it is rated for

that spark would have killed the mobo, CPU and graphics card for sure
heres the review of it: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/668

you'll find its hopelessly inefficient, and has voltage ripple that is very likely to damage your components on top of the already computer destroying blowey-upness. assuming the PSU hasnt been powering much, just get yourself a corsair builder series 430W. it will pay for itself on your electric bill after a while because its far more energy efficient

Cheers guys. The huntkey is 3 years old and has been used pretty much 12-16 hours a day every day.

Lucky I guess ;)

Well I never I have that exact same power supply that I was planning to use in my current build. I bought it many years ago and never got round to installing it in my last system. I am pretty glad I saw this, I will have a look for something better now.

I don't really want to hijack this thread or create another needless thread as I am currently searching the forum for suggestions about what is the best way to go for a power supply at the moment. However, if that fails I will post back here or in a new thread.
