What’s the current market like for efficient power supplies? I am looking at upgrading my system (to an Opteron/X2/C2D), and thought I would take the opportunity to get myself a new power supply. My computer is on a lot, and I wanted to get something that is pretty efficient – to keep the electrical use (and in turn our utility bills) to a minimum.

If its any help, I will overclock the new system - but nothing hardcore. Single PCI-E graphics card and I will be using lots of hard drives (currently 7).

There seem to be a few on the OCUK site that feature Active PFC. The Akasa, Hiper and the Seasonic all seem to have it.

The Seasonic M12 seems to be a good fit for what I am after. Energy efficiency wise, would that be better than the Seasonic S12 Energy+, or even any of the other models available?

Avoid the Hiper like the plague, either Seasonic should be fine not really sure by the Energy+ thing you mentioned though.
