Well after saying my jeantech psu has worked troublefree ive gone ahead and jinxed myself.

The fan in the psu has suddenly stopped working, its getting power because the LEDs inside it are on but the fan does not spin.

Now occasionly it spins for a few seconds whilst making a horrible noise then stops again.

I took the psu apart to find the fan is a 2 pin one not the usuall 3 pin fan which i have loads of.

Is it possible to buy 2 pin fans or should i just replace the whole psu??

Dont fancy doing that within the power supply.

Risky business, plus i dont have a soldereing iron anyways :(

ok then well you could get a 3pin extension cable and just plug it into your motherboard

i've actually replaced my psu fan a few times, not the one i own currently but my previous ones. I do recall it being 2 core fan and i had a 3 core fan. I just put a terminal on the black wire and connected the live and netural to old fan wires position.

Worked until i actually renewed hardware that required a new psu.

or this.

Remove old fan.
Cut both lots of wires.
Solder together (Or crimp if you cannot borrow a soldering iron / solder) old header and new fan.
Make sure the joint is insulated.
Plug back in.

Be very very careful. Capacitors in PSU's can kill you, they can deliver a lethal shock.

you can just ties the old wired to the new ones... you know, strip some of the cover off, twist them together, then put some sticky tape on it to insulate it... i've done that loads of times in PSUs to replace the noisy fans... honestly, i used to have this Qtec 300W PSU and for some reason Qtec pick the stupidest 80mm fan that makes the most noise and pushes hardly any air, all i did was take out the rubbish 80mm fan and put a decent Antec 80mm fan on it (no soldering, just stripping and sellotape) and voila, it was a hell of a lot quieter!
