Ok my mum is getting me my power supply this week. Unfortunately some of the descriptions on OCUK arent very good. Some dont show what connections are included and the reviews dont always help.

I am gonna be getting a 4870x2 in the future.

Current spec.
Qx9650 3ghz
6gig Geil Black Dragon 800
Asus maximus formula
500gig sata hd
current card 4870 512mb

I am looking for cards with 8pin and 6pin pci-e cables and all the other necessary cables to run the above. Can anyone spec me one?

Hoping to get one for 115pound max. I have been looking at 800w psus but i am thinking this is overkill as the 4870X2 doesnt need this? Hopefully wanting to be buying on wednesday in case OCUK decide to do psu deals.
I saw an OCZ power supply about 700w with a blue led for 85pound but unsure of the connections.
Thanks in advance.

most connections are standard as ATX 2.2 format, Id look at corsair, you can either get a 750W non modular or a 620W modular for your budget, both would suffice, the 750 would give you more headroom but the 620 should still be fine and would mean tidier cabling
Alternatively a BeQuiet 650W, Zalman 750W (just over budget) or even a coolermaster realpower 700W and a bit of change :)

+1 for the BeQuiet

You've gotta get modular IMO, as everything these days is about airflow and temp, so keeping that cabling neat and tidy is a must!:)

So the BeQuiet 650w would be enough for the components? Would it be enough if i wanted to overclock and can you confirm if these have the 8pin graphics card cables?

Basically all of the gaming PSU's have the right PCI-e power plugs. BeQuiet PSU's are brilliant, and the name says it all. Good cabling too. Yes overclocking would be fine, not that you really need to with that setup :P

Lol, yeah but if i did want to run my quad core at 3.6ghz i wanna make sure my pc wont explode!
Currently thinking between the 700w Coolermaster at £91 and the bequiet one at 650w. I know definitely that the coolermaster has the 8pin as it says it in the description and is also modular. If i get the coolermaster one i will save more money which i can use on the 4870x2 but everyone is giving good reviews for the bequiet. I just need to know about the cables :)

look for atx 2.2 i belive thay have the slection of cables you are looking for as standard.
Go modular as well its worth the extra cash, improoves airflow and cable mess.
A quality PSU of 650-750 watts would be ideal, have you checked out the Zalman heatpipe cooled modular units?

I have only checked ocuk as they are the cheapest i have seen. Not sure if ocuk stock these?

-1 for the 700w CoolerMaster Real Power - if you have a large case, the PCI-E cables are too short, and there have been several people including myself reporting coil whine/capacitor squeal from them.

I would also say don't make plans to upgrade to the X2, it's getting quite old now and there will likely be something better from Nvidia or ATi in the next six months.

True but if we keep waiting in case new things come out every 6 months then nothing would get bought. The new lot will probably be overpriced like the current gtx 295 is. The 4870X2 is coming down to affordable prices in the next few months which will be the time i am looking to upgrade. By the time i get the required amount anyway we will see the new revision so i will be halfway to saving for the 4890x2 or whatever.

The bequiet 650w has a 6+2pin which means it can be also be used as an 8pin connector so it will be perfect for what you need.
I'd deffo go for the Bequiet 650w mod.

I'm getting by with a Q6600 and a 4870 (both clocked) on a 520W Corsair, so I'd say a 650/750W PSU is going to be more than enough :)

Just what I like to hear mate, my pocket thanks you guys ;)
Now on to saving for the X2 or greater, then after that a new case.

Oh one more thing. Is it easy enough to buy more modular cables? As has been said the PSU comes with a 6pin+2 but if I wanted a normal 8pin cable is this easy to get a hold of?

Phone wont let me edit my post. I am hoping someone can suggest which one to go for above corsair or be quiet. The be quiet is modular but the corsair is 800w and pretty much future proof.
