Power supply time.

Either would be a good choice. Personally I would pay a little more for the modular Be Quiet, as you're unlikely to need 850w.

That said, Alexrose1uk's recommendation of the 700w FSP would also be a very good choice; FSPs are rock solid PSUs with a good reputation and I agree with him - it's not really worth spending the extra cash on either of the other two PSUs tbh.

I hadnt really heard of FSP before its hard to see whether this has all the connections needed for the 4870x2 though.

FSP make rock solid PSUs used by a lot of OEMs, and they're quite popular in America. I believe a lot of recent Compaq and HP prebuilt machines also use low end FSP as they have a tendency not to die as much as you'd expect!

According to the listing it has 2x PCI-E power connectors, so you should be fine on that accord for the 4870 X2. Last I checked 8pin PCI-E adaptors were not a requirement for the current cards, and worst comes to worst and you find you need them, 6-->8 pin adaptors can be found very cheaply.

That said, going for a modular PSU is not a bad choice either, either way you won't regret, the FSP just seemed a better 'value' option, at a good £20+ cheaper than the others, the high efficiency rating will help keep the bills down also (not by much but every little helps).

Edit: Just noticed the FSP listing mentions EPS, which (I could be wrong) I believe means you should find it has 8pin (if needed) PCI-E graphics power adaptors, so would be perfect :)

I'm running a system closed to what you're mentioning in the top post (Q6600, so IIRC more power consuming), on a 520w. A decent brand 700W PSU should laugh in the face of its 1 HDD'ness.

I ended up getting the Coolermaster 700W modular one lol. Was being kind to my mum and the Coolermaster seemed to get decent reviews. If I get the whining problem I will just return it.

Now, another question: I currently have a 4870 512mb and will be selling this in the future, but in the meantime I am thinking of crossfiring the 4870X2 so the 4870 isnt sitting in a box doing nothing (I want to keep it incase the 4870X2 dies for some reason so I still have a PC to use!!)

The PSU only has 2 PCI-E connectors in it. Is using Molex to 6-pin PCI-E adaptor ok to use with the 4870 to power it?

I will use one PCI-E to power the 8 pin on the 4870X2 and the other one to provide the 4870 with power for the 6pin. Then use a molex to 6 pin for each of the other sockets.

Edit: And I know that crossfiring with the 4870X2 is pointless because it gets bottlenecked down to 512mb from the 4870, but I am just doing it to test it out :)
