Power Tools - What Brand?

I know its not really applicable here, but if you ever need to buy spare parts for a tool, then Makita or Bosch Professional tend to be better.

Eg. if a switch goes faulty in a Milwaukee or Dewalt, the switch, control board & field are often classed as 1 piece and cannot be bought separately.

Whereas Makita and Bosch, tend to be better with parts availablity.

This could be key. Theres a bloke on YouTube and other SM that fixes tools - I’m sure someone linked to his page in the other thread and he swears by makita.

He’s not to keen on Milwaukee as he said they’re constantly failing and just not worth repairing due to the cost.

Whether they’d break with using them once in a while I’m not sure but I guess they do with daily use.

He’s also slated the way the higher end tool makers like hilti are completely changing the internals so you can’t repair them.

Yeah, his name is Dean Doherty.
Quite a few times a trigger or a different small part can break on a Milwaukee or Dewalt, and because you can't buy the small part by itself, its often uneconomical to fix it.
He does rate Makita and Bosch very highly (although he in an authorised Makita repairer).

But as you said, in a DIY capacity, they should last a decent length of time.

He also occasionally reviews more budget brands.

My power tool ecosystem is Einhell, I have yet to have anything fail on me.
I have the jigsaw, mower, strimmer, SDS drill, power drill, impact driver, multi tool and grinder, plus sander.
Batteries have been great, tools are pretty sturdy.

I went DeWalt but can't go wrong with Makita DeWalt or Milwaukee really. Go with whatever is the best deal for the tools you need.

Never used them myself but Ryobi seems popular amongst yourtubers. Sponsored perhaps? They have a good range but I'm unsure about reliability or performance. Perhaps worth considering looking into if the price is attractive enough?

As a DIY'er, Einhell has served me very well. Usually a fair bit cheaper as the more well know brands.

I like Makita, I have a work light, intact driver, combi drill, SDS drill, cordered jigsaw, circular saw, and multi tool. The work light is OK, but not perfect

They’re all fine. I have makita but only because my dad gave me his old 18v drill 10 years ago, and I’ve just built up my collection since.

If I were starting from scratch I’d just go for whichever one has the best deal at the time from a reputable seller and stick with it. Makita, DeWalt, Milwaukee, Bosch Professional. They’re all much of a muchness.

I personally prefer Makita and use their tools, but bought DeWalt for my son (just to get him started). I can't fault either.

I was a long time Hilti fan, and user, but they're a bit pricey for home use.

This is actually very good to know! I hate throwing stuff out, always try to repair it.

Thanks all for the input, it looks like I've some more research to do...
