I need to invest into one brand of power tools, I'm contemplating between Makita and DeWalt (leaning more towards the latter), I'll need tools like..

- Impact Gun/Wrench
- Combi Drill
- Reciprocating Saw
- Multi-Tool

Any recommendations on actual models would be good too, it's mostly for DIY. What would be the best choice?

There's a thread in home and garden.

Also, for you? Fisher Price.

(Makita all day long. Did my apprenticeship with Makita stuff, made me a life-long fan)

most brands have a domestic and industrial/professionals versions... always go for the later.

Many people have preferences (I'm bosch) but I'd say bosch, makita, dewalt are all solid choices. Milwaukee also great but can be spendy.

Just pretend the home/diy versions don't exist, regardless of brand.

You getting lazy you old git, where's a hyperlink? :p

I'm looking to upgrade from my Fisher Price set, its pretty worn out...

It's ok, your apprenticeship was few decades away, you don't have to promote them anymore.

Yeah, entry stuff is never great, even with more known names like Bosch.

I'm looking for best bang for buck, high up on the list is obviously durability and build quality. I would say 65% of my friends have DeWalt, the other 30% have Makita and 5% are either Snap-on or Milwaukee.

Oh go on then, seeing as you're too lazy to search for it :D

I would go Makita out of those two.

Milwaukee are the best I ever owned though, I have a cordless reciprocating saw, two cordless drills and cordless jigsaw.
3 out of 4 of them were used when i bought them about 9 years ago and still work like new.

The bosch pro range is blue and it's great. Their home stuff stuff is green.

I got a bosch pro 12v driver and used it for work nearly everyday for 3 years and it didn't skip a beat. I still have it now for the odd bit of DIY and making flat packs around the house.

I use Makita daily and can’t fault it (cordless drill, cordless hammer drill, diamond core drill 240v,hammer drill 240v,kango 240v and trusty DAB radio).

My multitool is dewalt 240v and i highly recommend it. I burnt out 3 multitools in one year and this one refuses to die.

The various established power tool ecosystems are all really mature at this point. There's no bad choice.

Look at what you plan on using the tools most for, what brand has the tools to meet those needs, and then pick one based on prices you're willing to part with.

DeWalt is my weapon of choice, but I know others that swear by Hilti, some by Bosch. There isn't a defacto brand hierarchy that makes choosing really easy, unfortunately.

I know its not really applicable here, but if you ever need to buy spare parts for a tool, then Makita or Bosch Professional tend to be better.

Eg. if a switch goes faulty in a Milwaukee or Dewalt, the switch, control board & field are often classed as 1 piece and cannot be bought separately.

Whereas Makita and Bosch, tend to be better with parts availablity.
