In the summer I'm going to be in a field for 4 days and looking to power a projector and games console, some lights, phone and camera chargers, music, and possibly some form of beer cooler (camping at the F1 GP at Silverstone :p). I'm after advice from people who camp more than me (I.e. at all) as to the best way to have power when in a field? There will be 4 of us and probably 2 or 3 cars. We were thinking a generator, or maybe car batteries? Or running things from the car cig lighters? Any ideas and suggestions welcome.

Diesel generator will be the cheapest option. Can run it on red. Could run it from the car cigarette lighter, but you'll go through quite a few batteries.

Also. You're not camping.

Seriously, a games console is small fry. In Belgium a few years back there was a box van with a hot tub on the tail lift and a cinema come club in the back.

One of those little Honda Whisper Gennys would do you just right but taking a console with ya is a sin.

Pay for the electric hookup :p

Liking the commitment, we talked about taking a projector to rewatch highlights on iplayer after the race but never got around to it the other year.

You do realise this is a field 50m from a race track rammed full of drunk and partying F1 fans, and not a quiet weekend getaway to the Cotswolds? :p

Edit, there are no hookups unfortunately.

On my yearly trip to Le Mans, we never take a gennie or anything like that. The people who do are thought to be ******s as they keep everyone up, and they just break the peace (we just want to hear the cars you see). Don't do it. Do it properly and then people won't think you're a ****.
