Power while Camping?

Honda EU10i or 20i genny will run computer/tv gear, but they are not cheap. You maybe able to rent one? I echo the comments about Silverstone weekend being a mud fest, I would not rush back thats for sure! Bring on the sun..... :-)

In the summer I'm going to be in a field for 4 days and looking to power a projector and games console, some lights, phone and camera chargers, music, and possibly some form of beer cooler (camping at the F1 GP at Silverstone :p). I'm after advice from people who camp more than me (I.e. at all) as to the best way to have power when in a field? There will be 4 of us and probably 2 or 3 cars. We were thinking a generator, or maybe car batteries? Or running things from the car cig lighters? Any ideas and suggestions welcome.

Dude REALLY!! your at the GP.

Its not quiet, there is no down time!!

12 of us rented two campers and drove to the Italian GP from Switzerland a few years back, was an amazing time and no tech with us!!

There is no down time when at the GP, there is always something going on at the circuit and then getting wasted and having a laugh in the evening around a fire. Only thing we had really was a decent sound system.

You soon make friends with others camping around you and have a great laugh.

If anything prepare your self for *&^*&^ in a hole and not having a decent wash for four days ;) so may wanna think about a toilet tent and bog if needed lol :D

Have fun!:D

Pretty odd thread..

Generator is your only option for powering games console/projector unless you feel like wiring an inverter to your car and filling the boot with large batteries.

How many car batteries would you need to run a projector for two hours? Would have thought quite a lot given the power they use.

Lol. This is not a "get away from it all" camping trip, its a 4 day party in a field.

Mattyprice, I was there when you and Janesy B nearly burnt down your tent at the Silverstone 6 hours :p

Bear mind also that if he gets hold of two leisure batteries and puts in the split charger as I mentioned, he can have additional power by running the car engine.
Not only will the alternator be *******ing in whatever's necessary, having the engine running will mean he also has the use of the cars own battery as well..
More than enough.
Projector consumes about 300w @ 240v so 1.25 amps depending on model.

Lets say 27 amps (added 2 extra for inefficiencies in the inverter) @ 12v... on 1x 80amp/hr leisure battery it'll last about 2.9 hrs (115amp/hr will last about 4.1)

Perfect :D

Bah, you don't need any of that stuff. I've been on a few trips to Silverstone with members of this forum, and all you need is:
- Beer
- Beer
- Beer
- Meat and a BBQ
- Somewhere for Janesy B to throw up everywhere after losing a drinking competition to a girl (no, we haven't forgotten yet)

Oh, a tent or two may be useful.

This is why I get a hotel with a southerner now. Less vomiting, less regret.
