Looking to buy one of these but price-searching on Kelkoo only served to get me confused with all the different versions there are about. There's some costing £15 and one that costs £65!

Since each website I visited tended to only have one or at most two different versions of the powerball for sale, and the blurbs on each one weren't very informative, I thought I'd post here since I know plenty of you own them, and ask what the differences between all the different flavours are, and where a good place to buy one from without getting fleeced would be. I'm mainly looking to build up my wrist because I spend a lot of time typing on my computer and I fear I'm going to develop RSI, so I'm not looking for any of the sports professional versions I've seen on sale online!

Thanks, and no wrist exercise jokes please!:D

Gah! I'm even more confused! Why is there a "with counter" version when the "normal" 250Hz Pro it shows in the picture on the website HAS an LCD counter on it? I reckon I should go for this one - since it's only £3 more expensive than the next model down... (sports retailer so not a competitor I hope, dons please feel free to remove if it is)

Uhh... a little help please? I've only owned it for one day and I managed to get the cord stuck inside it! It's tangled up in the mechanism and I have no idea how to take it out! Help? :(

Err... nobody able to help me? The end of the string somehow got stuck in the mechanism, still can't get it out! Will take a pic later...

How do you guys get it started with your thumb? I've seen that video on the website but I can't get it spinning anywhere near fast enough with my fingers! Guess I'm a weakling, I should practice more... :p

How do they work? They seem intresting but i really dont see how they work
I'm guessing the gyroscope is asymmetrically weighted on one sige at about 45 degrees from the angle of rotation, meaning that one side of the powerball has more kinetic energy than its opposite side. This causes it to spin horizontally as well as vertically, and your circular wrist movements translate that horizontal rotation velocity into faster vertical rotation. Bah I wish I knew how to express this better, haven't studied physics since I was 16 at school so I'm not sure if this is making sense to anyone, or if it's the right answer at all :(

Do these actually build up arm muscles though? I wouldn't expect a great deal of change but are they more than just a toy to compete with?
Don't expect a great deal of "buffing", more a case of toning the muscles. Although that world champion guy featured on the powerballs website claims that it's the only arm exercise he does and he has pretty big biceps...
He still looks ridiculous spinnning that thing though :p

:D

Are you saying powerballs are men's equivalent of skin cream? It does spin quite fast, maybe if I touched it to my face while it was spinning it could provide a gentle exfoliating action... :p

having touched my hand with it by mistake I'd say dont put it near anything fleshy unless you want to lose skin and burn :p
But don't you WANT that shiny pink glow of youth?:D

Don't use the string to start them, use your thumb and a quick gently flick
Can't get the hang of that!:( Is there a trick to it or is it just a matter of strength? How do you do it?

Its strange, i actually feel the burn more in my tricep than my wrist
Your wrist is a joint, there's no muscles there! :p It's all forearm.

And anyone who's looking for one, I think most of us in here got it from a well-known e-tailer of games and DVDs (is it a competitor or not? I keep forgetting!) for around £17 iirc

Still haven't gotten the hang of starting it without the string... I somehow managed it yesterday, by holding it palm-up in my left hand and flicking it with my right thumb, but I haven't been able to do it again today... Any advice?
