Powercolor 3780 no Windows Display

I have just purchased the Powercolor HD3780 card.

After installing it & switching on, I get the Bios info & the Windows log on screen but the screen then goes blank.

I also tried a VGA cable (a wasted £8) but still have the same result. (blank screen after windows screen on VGA & DVI)

Can anybody suggest what I may do or is it likely to be a faulty card or incompactabilty with motherboard.
After 6 hours I am now very unhappy.

I have the latest bios for motherboard 1013, the monitor is Hyundai W240D & I loaded the drivers off the Powercolor CD
I have Windows XP SP2

My prev Card 1900XT still works okay

I would try booting into windows via safe mode, then uninstalling the display drivers from there and perhaps using driver cleaner.

Hi Gary, yes I have the 6pin power lead connected.

The PC also continues to load windows & I get the windows sound, just no screen. I presume it maybe a monitor set up issue ? which is why I tried a vga cable but still no screen & I did go through the monitor menu inputs.

I get the blank screen in safe mode as well

Very frustrating.

It sounds like a driver problem, try booting into safe mode (keep pressing F8 before windows splash screen), and if you can boot into windows that way it will mean its a driver issue and from safe mode you can uninstall the drivers, then reboot, go into windows xp normally, and re install the drivers, try the ones from the disk.

I have tried the F8 & the pc whurrs & I get the safe mode sound but the blank screen.

I uninstalled the drivers & installed the ones off the cd, but no screen when I plug the 3870 card in.

Put the X1900XT back in, uninstall drivers, put the 3850 back in, install drivers, you have tried exactly that right?

Yes Will that is what I did first, I then put the 1900 in & installed the drivers off the new CD & then tried the 3870 again with no success. I then tried a vga cable & no difference.

If no other suggestions I'll try again & uninstall the drivers & put the 3870 back in.

I'll try that as well in the morning & suspend the Security Suite,

I had to try again tonight, followed all the guidelines but no difference exactly the same problem

Blank screen in vga & DVI, I can here the windows sound & it seems like all okay but no display.

Any more suggestions ?

Well if the old card is working then it suggest that the new cark is borked, just get it replaced under the 7 day distant selling act.

Hope the new one works :)

Had similiar problems, mines was not the card, was my LCD (Formac 2010). The LCD was fine, but I assume it is down to HDCP or perhaps some sort of freak incompatability. Got a 2407WFP-HC instead and all was fine.

Seem to remember something from the distant past, to do with the wrong resolution in windows, hence no problem up to windows log in. Would try lowering resolution to 800x600 in standard vga drivers whilst in windows and then try installing new drivers and then up the resolution later. Good luck. Mean uninstall graphics card in device driver and let windows restart in vga mode but don't let windows install drivers until you set resolution to 800x600 and then install drivers after reboot.

Many Thanks for all your help.

The display forum on the hardforum.com site has a few people with the same problems. It seems to be with ATI cards.

I was just giving up & going to ask for a RMa when I changed the "Init Display First" from PCIE to PCI.
Bugger me Windows appeared. I did have VGA & DVI leads connected. I have disconnected the VGA lead & All is okay. I have shut down & restarted & it still works.

I'll slowly overclock to 2.6 on the AMD processor.

Not sure if worth all the hassle, but the games sure fly now at 1920*1200 on the 24" monitor.

This was my first post & Thanks again to all who posted.:)
