Powercut :(

Worth buying a cheap generator, if it keeps the contents of your fridge/freezer safe it'll pay for itself in a short space of time.

I had a 13 hour power cut yesterday. I live in very rural lake district in the middle of a forest so it's to be expected plus this is the second one in a week.

Props to the engineers for getting us going again despite there being <10 people living in a 2 mile radius.

What, never had a power cut that has lasted that long. Fridges and freezers are well insulated and will last a long time without power if you don't keep opening the door
generator would never have paid for it self.

Rural Hertfordshire had scheduled power outages all throughout the winter of 73-74. Supper by candlelight happened at least twice a week.

Well, I remember the Winter of Discontent in 78/79. What you experienced must have been localised to your area.

Believe we've had 2x 24-48 hour power cuts in the last 10 years - not cost effective buying even a cheap generator for that, though I spent a bit on backup power for convenience even though I don't expect to really need it.

Longest power cut we had was when a substation exploded. Sadly killed someone.

The power people had to install a few mobile generators in the area to get people back up.
