Powering a 22" TFT from my Laptop

I invested in a shiny new Samsung Pebble 22" TFT a few weeks ago. Since connecting it up though, my laptop seems to have been suffering in more ways than just one.

My external hard drive regularly shuts off randomly or is simply not recognised at all by windows upon boot. My USB headset isn't recognised after booting either. My TV tuner varies between being unrecognised and unable to pick up any signal. I've also experienced an increase (not huge, but noticeable) in system lockups.

I have trouble believing that all these problems are coincidental. Are these tell-tale signs of a lack of power from my laptop? Would adding an external 22" TFT actually sap that much more (or even any) power from my laptop, considering I no longer use the laptop's built in screen?

I've gone through everything I can think of which might have helped the above problems (updating BIOS, chipset, unistalling/reinstalling drivers, even a fresh install of Vista)... nothing has led to any improvement.

Any words of wisdom are very welcome & appreciated!

Would use less power, if anything as the screen is powered from the mains and you don't have to power the laptops screen.

The only thing I can possibly think of that might cause problems from your laptop is that you're driving a much higher res screen, possibly a video memory problem? I haven't heard of it happening, I'm clutching at straws for ideas really, but that's the only thing I can think of, no matter how unlikely. Try increasing the available video RAM.

Your concerns about power are unjustified, as said, your laptop will actually be drawing less.

you turning the volume up on laptop speakers high? I was having big problems with my laptop playing pro evo for a while with the onboard speakers on, was worse when plugged into a HDTV as I had to turn it louder(couldnt find the cable to use tv speakers) since i was in a bigger room with more people etc ..
