Hi,

I'm looking into how to power multiple DSLR cameras with the least amount of plugs...

I'm currently working with a 50 camera setup so as you can imagine, that's a lot of plugs! To bring them down a bit, could I use the following?

I'd just use the DC coupler and unplug the Adapter bit

instead 8 cameras powered by one of these

I see the camera AC adaptor says 8v, the separate power supply say 9v. It'd fry the cameras?

Sorry if this is all daft, I'm not big on electricals. If anyone could point me to a similar item that won't fry the cameras. :D

You need to make sure of 2 things

Voltage is correct and enough ohm.

Ohm you can go over but I wouldn't go over the voltage.

My eyes are bleeding :D

Amps *not* ohms :)

Onto the task at hand:
Your proposed solution looks relatively reasonable, but there are a few points to consider.
* Polarity.

These should match on both the camera battery adaptor and the plug.
* Voltage- 9v DC is probably OK, unlikely to fry the camera.
* Quality of power supply- Stuff 8 cameras onto a cheap Chinese piece of tat, and you're highly likely to end up with flames.
* Number of amps. A 50D's DC adaptor is rated at 3A. Your Pro-Power box is rated at 150ma per output (v2). (20x too small....)

If the 9v box is well designed (I'd hope so based upon the price....), plugging the two together will just trip an overload function.
If not, magic smoke

You need a much beefier power supply box. If you're not using flash / IS on the cameras and basically just triggering the shutter at a fixed focus point, you'd probably get away with 1a - 1.5a per camera, but that's by no means a given.

Sorry? Amps, not ohms!

Btw those power supplies are for guitar pedals, most outputs are designed for 100mA, some are as high as 800mA. Depending on the pedal.

I've never seen one output that does 1.5A... I have a Cioks Ciokolate which does 100mA up to 800mA with 16 outputs, and from 9v to 24v. One of the biggest on the market and still won't power a camera.

Most guitar pedal PSU can handle a max of around 5A total, I think you'll struggle to find one that can power 8 cameras at once.

It's for 3d Head scanning. Gets a full 360 degree x 50 shot view of the face to build CG characters.

We've been capturing all the actors for Star Citizen/Squadorn 42. Gary Oldman, Mark Hamill and Gillian Anderson have all sat in that seat :)

Another guy initially set it up and yes it was mainly trial and error. The photos just need to overlap a bit to ensure full coverage of the head.

There's a LOT that can be done to improve this system which I'm researching. Losing the rubbish tripods for a more secure frame work would be the 1st thing!
