How do you mean never work at advertised speeds? I think there are too many variables for them to state garuenteed speeds so give speeds based on optimal conditions. Much like everything in life.

Tp link are the worst, in fact they're downright scum for plastering 1gbps all over their boxes. In actual fact, it's 500gbps max, but they think it's fair to add both directions and say 1gbps. You wouldn't catch isps doing that, there'd be an uproar

There are loads of models which advertise 200 or 500Mbps but the ethernet port on them is only rated at 10/100 so you could never get that speed.

They're just a terrible waste of money, quite honestly WiFi is better.

Wifi should be used for light mobile browsing.
Powerline shouldn't be used.

I use mine for browsing, streaming, downloading and online gaming. Far more reliable than Wifi in my situation.

I've got the same issue with the same adaptors. Apperantly it's a power saving issue.

I have tp link plugs, WiFi gives 1-5mbps, the plugs give a sync speed of 380mbps (admittandly short of the 500mbps stated on the box) and an actual web speed I've just over 85mbps from my 100mbps connection. Given the distances I'm happy with that as Ethernet isn't feasable for me
