Powerline Adapter Question

hey overclockers,
I have a set of powerline adapters, need some advice.. not sure on how I could solve this problem.
1) is connected to my BT hub downstairs (connected is a 20MB w/BT)
2) is upstairs running an 10m cat5e ethernet cable, witch is unplugged atm.

I wanted to knoe what the speed would be like? since I am expecting to get my new gaming pc when the new ivybridge cpu's and new AMD gpu's to come out. Don't want to experience any lag, eg: when ingame 1v1 wouldent the hit detection (delay) becuase im using powerline adapters.

However I thinking of getting a shorter cat5e cable (3m = -7m) would I be better of going down a different route?
eg: Wireless Access Point, Network card?

any input or reccomendations would be greatly appreciated.
 
The chances are powerline will be fine as long as your wiring is reasonable. The only way to really know is to suck it and see but it is generally much better than wireless.

Knocking 7m of a cat 5 cable probably won't make any difference but I've always been a firm believer in only using what you need with cables so if a 1m will suffice use that.
 
was just wondering, dident want to be ingame shooting at enemys and it taking a while for the bullets to register.. im scared of games being delayed online.

could anyone suggest any other method of connecting to my homehum and it being more stable?
 
Powerline adapters will probably be fine - assume they're reasonable. To improve on that you could run a network cable directly from HH to PC. Obviously this is a pain and why you have your powerline adapters...

Maybe putting in a telephone extension and moving the hub is easier..?

Use your current PC to test what you have. Use TF2 or some other free to play to see what latency you get from servers - you don't need to play the game to compare server latency. Or even a speedtest to compare latency?

thinking of jsut routing an ethernet wire from HH to the actual PC, this would include a lot of tacking, and routing it under the carpet. jesus, this is going to be harder then I thought.

Exactly. Which is why I bought some powerline adapters this week as I was getting fed up of wifi latency!

Hi,

You wont be disappointed, I run a set of these and they work brilliant, never dropped the internet yet and super stable, they also stream my full blu ray movies to my wd live TV box without any stutter.

thanks for letting me know, im thinking about waiting untill I can get something routed through the house, thinking about trying the powerline adapters as a second option :/.
