Hi all,

Looking to get some powerline adapters.

I live in a townhouse with the router on the bottom floor. I have standard bt and get about 15Mbps.

Looking to plug in some powerline adapters to get Ethernet to the lounge on the middle floor to my freesat and ps4.

Based on the fact that I'll only ever stream from the internet is there a need to go for 500 vs 200?

Also I'll probably have to get a switch box if I don't get a model that has multiple ports.

I'm also aware that these devices can only come in 10/100 even when they claim 500 on some models.

Advice/recommendations sought.

Thanks.

AV500 adapters with Gigabit ports are quite common. Whether they actually need them most of the time is questionable.

AV200 adapters should be fine for the use described.

Have a look at zyxel they give you powerline with gigabit and 4 Ethernet connections. If you look around you can get then for under 35 each.

Ordered the tplink 6010 av600 and bought a 4 port gigabit unmanaged switch box too. Let you know how I get on.

I've ordered again from another reseller. Their picture shows uk plugs, so hopefully will be right.

Once these come in ill package up the others and send back. Enjoying all my stuff now:

Billion 7800n Router (ground floor office)<---->powerline<------>gigabit switch(middle floor lounge) <----> humax freesat/wifi billion 3100sn hotspot/ps4 :-)

Got brilliant wifi all around my house now, as the lounge is on the middle floor. So much so I've turned off the wifi on the router.

Ping is good back to router, mostly 4ms, with a few bursts into 15ms.

I'll see if the uk ones do that, or it's my house.

Negative: they do whine, others have reported this. No way I could have this in a silent room. Luckily my lounge is over run by a 2 year old and something is always making a noise and my office has a PC that wouldn't mind some water cooling.

I currently have the netgear 500s and never had any problems abit for pricey! but worth it!

Yeah I've already bought the wifi access point. Plus I like the separation, provides me with options should something go down.

These TP-link have a 3 year warranty...hopefully that means they are confident in their product.

My next pair arrive tomorrow. Hopefully UK plugs, I emailed to make sure.

These that I'm returning I think I'll just replace and get a couple more. Might put one in the loft with an old server and NAS connected to it.

Awesome tiny little boxes!

Sorry to jump on this guys but I wasn't sure if it merited a new thread. I am considering getting a good set of powerline adapters mainly for 1080p streaming from pc to tv in separate rooms. I currently have the bt home hub 5 which I understand is dual band so would a good wifi adapter on the pc achieve the same, if not better, results? I live in a bungalow and the lowest my signal ever drops to is 4 bars on any device so would wifi be alright?
I have always been a fan of powerline but the tv will be wall mounted so the fewer cables I have running to it the better - it has built in wifi btw.

My experience of powerline so far is that it's far *far* better for streaming than WiFi, especially at 1080p.

The powerline adapater I linked in my reply above, does WiFi repeating, so you could always put that right next to the TV (out of sight maybe) so that the TV has best possible signal.
