Powerline improvement

Whats the best and easiest way to check what your actual transfer rate is over these adapaters?

Put them in the system as follows:

1. Plug Cat 5 cable out of router into powerline adaptor plugged into 3 pin mains wall socket.

2. Locate another 3 pin mains wall socket away from the one you have just used in paragraph 1, plug powerline adaptor into it, then take Cat 5 cable out of it into the PC.

3. Go here http://www.speedtest.net/

Note 1. The above is with talktalk that many people deride! For this superb broadband service I only pay £4 per month over and above the free service they provide if you have their telephone service.

Note 2. This is only a speed test, but it is a good indication. There are many other factors that affect transfer speeds.

Plug them in between two machines and transfer a big file to see throughput.

If you use them to get Internet to a machine not near the master socket etc then it will be harder to get their throughput unless you have an awesome internet connection and place to download from with no speed cap.

Other than that the software that came with mine to set them up reported their remote speeds, but not the xfer rate.

as gord to test the adpeters only transfer data across your internal network if you have 2 pc's. Monitor with task managers network tab

Adpaters come with a utility you install on one pc that checks passwords (default is ok) and connection rates to any other adpaters . You would hope to get nearly 200 up and down the line but up and down may not be the same)

testing internet downloads puts extra links in the testing chain but may be the only option if your a one pc household
