Powerline networking tested

It's not feasible for me because my place always get regular powercuts. Seeing as the powerline relie's on a circuit in the house, once this has been broken, network's down! :(

Thought of one more questions (sorry), but do these things need thier own wall socket, or do they run just as fast/reliably on an extension
(ie the 2m cable 1 socket to 6 adaptors)?

I believe people have used extension cables although netgear / Powerline dont recommend /gaurentee it.

As above really - What is the use of a network if power isnt available anyway.... ok you could have one laptop or even multiple but they would still have to go through some kind of powered hub or router anyway

See above posts, if you get a power cut your wireless router and PC wont work either so its a bit academic really :p

The documentation says to plug it directly into a dedicated socket, however i've read a few arguements here saying that using it on a surge protector could actully be no different or even enhance the speed. I'm sure Gord was one of the people so he might be able to enlighten you further, he's one of the other members who promotes powerline as much as i do ;)

Edit* Beaten on both counts by one minute! dammit! :D

It works so well on my nephews set up I'm going to ditch my own wireless set up for powerline. I'm directly above my router with just a ceiling between devices and still get the odd drop out each day on wireless.

I will likely get the 200mb set fo myself.

Sorry but are you serious?

What the hell are you going to use to power your PC's during this powercut?

LOL.
