Looking for a bit of networking advice.

We have a split level property that was set up with broadband coming into the front of the property - I had a wireless N router/modem with a powerline ethernet plug (200mbps) connected. At the back of the property I had the other powerplug (wireless N plug) to provide a second wireless network at the back. This gave overall wireless coverage. That was all well and good with the 8mb line we had.

Well today we upgraded to BT Infinity 2 and have a 75mb down and 18mb up line. I understand the restrictions of the hardware we have, wireless N max at 300mbps (yeah I know all mbps are theoretical etc) and am finding the homeplug 200 isnt up to the job anymore.

I am looking to replace the homeplugs with either 1000 or 500 ones but for the life of me I cannot find a wireless 500 plug anywhere. I know its a strange request as the wireless will be 300 not 500, yet anyway, but we have 3 computers in the back area that all need connecting.

Would it be better to go for a 1000 or 500 powerline plug setup and connect a gigabit switch with a wireless AP on? If so which are the better powerline ones for max speed? Unfortunately I have to keep wireless as well for idevices etc.

Cheers in advance.

From my understanding you are better off using the 500MB powerline. I upgraded this week from TP 200 to 500 and have seen a good improvement in my 100MB virgin broadband. a lot of people using the 1000MB powerlines are experiencing troubles i believe.
