Hi there,

New to all this FAH so bear with me please :)

K, so I now got the SMP client working perfect and as a service ;)

I also got a single console client running on a 3400+ and another single client running on a X2 3800+

Here is some stats:

C2D

Cur. Time / Frame : 12mn 55s - 1697.90 ppd
R3F. Time / Frame : 12mn 55s - 1697.90 ppd

Cur. Time / Frame : 11mn 45s - 420.36 ppd

X2 3800+

Min. Time / Frame : 32mn 08s - 92.32 ppd
Avg. Time / Frame : 32mn 45s - 90.58 ppd
Cur. Time / Frame : 32mn 50s - 90.35 ppd
R3F. Time / Frame : 32mn 26s - 91.46 ppd

K, So basicly I want to know if the C2D is doing ok? Is it taking about the right amount of time to do a frame?

The 3400+ seems to be buzzing along just fine.

But what is wrong with the X2? It's taking 32mins to complete one frame?? I mean I thought that chip would be faster than the 3400+?

Should I have set it so it only uses one core instead of sharing the load across the two? (As in set the affinity to cpu 0?)

Cheers for any help! ;)

Your C2D looks about right. For comparison, my stock E6600 takes roughly 14.5 minutes for one 2610 frame.

The X2 3800 has picked up one of the 340x WUs and they're dire. My borgs (2.8GHz Pentium Ds) only do just over 100PPD with them. You just have to hope that the next WU is better.

I echo Snapshot's comment the 3403 are slow. I think th WU require more cache to to speed up therefore see what yr C2D does with one of them. My x2 4600 only 1MB cach takes a similar time to yr 3800 about 30 mins.
The C2D seems fine.

Definately something wrong with the x2 3800 setup, my single core 3500 is giving me...

R3F. Time / Frame : 26mn 36s - 111.52 ppd

Yep, looks like there something amiss with your X2-3800. Here's my E6600's before I shifted them to the Quads yesterday and today:

Min. Time / Frame : 15mn 21s - 193.25 ppd
Avg. Time / Frame : 15mn 21s - 193.25 ppd

They didnt' get finished as I shifted over to SMP and then over to the Quads.

Here's what you really want to be going after:

What are the X2-3800 and A64-3400 clocked at?
At stock 3800 only runs at 2.0 GHx as opposed to the 2.2GHz at stock for the 3400, the 3800 also only has 512KB L2 cache per core whereas the 3400 has 1MB L2 cache.
If running as above then I would expect to see the A64-3400 beating half an X2-3800 since the standard folding client is single-threaded and the L2 cache can make quite a difference.

edit: Just seen it's actually the 3500+ on the same WU, well same goes for that.
edit2: it seems the 3500+ runs at 2.2GHz also anyway - maybe with a higher bus speed

Hey guys, cheers for replying!

Thought my C2D was doing about right, going to OC a little bit more when this WU is done ;)

As to the 3400+, it's on a 754 socket (she wanted cheap....) and is clocked at 2.4ghz... I think the 3800+ is 2ghz.

I had the same WU on my C2D yesterday before I moved to the SMP client and it was taking:

-- C:/Fold1/ --

Min. Time / Frame : 16mn 23s - 181.06 ppd
Avg. Time / Frame : 16mn 57s - 175.01 ppd
No Cur. Time / Frame
No R3F. Time / Frame

So around half the time of the 3800+... I really need to OC that thing.

Those quads get a luuurrrrrvly turnaround time! I think after a new case )and maybe PSU) I will be getting me of them ;)

If I got a Quad it would be towards the end of this yr - start of next nad all I would want to do is shove a quad onto to my current rig.

Would people suggest that I wait until the penryn cores come out? Does anyone know when they are expected to hit?

Oh, & is anyone speculating how fast the new quad AMD's are going to be folding...?

Cheers!
