I'm sure you can guess what the first word is. I get calls and texts from PPI companies on a bi-daily basis and it's infuriating. I can sort of deal with the calls as I don't answer unknown numbers usually but texts have to be read and the odd call does slip through if I'm expecting a call from someone I don't have saved.

What's the law when it comes to unsolicited calls/texts and what can I do to stop or report them?

Thanks Matty, I'll have a nose (Android here). Does these blockers have the equivalent to the HOSTS file that you get in MS Windows? The HOSTS file is a set of blacklisted web site and would be useful to have something similar for the phone to block known scammers and cold callers.

'Excuse me sir or madam, have you recently taken out a loan in the past seven years'.

That is as far as it gets.

At least in the UK you pay to receive a text, it is ** No disguised swearing ** annoying here in the USA when you have to pay to receive spam texts! And there is no way to turn the feature off.

Ignore the text, forward it and the number it came from to 7726 (SPAM in T9 text) - they are a service that gathers spam text and apparently blocks them.

Never reply to those spammers.

I have got no PPI crap since doing it to about a dozen of spammers over a period of 3 months.

You can sign up to the TPS on your mobile, though it won't stop the texts. May as well sign up your address for the MPS as well, while you're at it.

i got a call once and played them along for 10 minutes shouting and acting like a fool. never got another call.

Never had PPI ones (touch wood) but I do get a shedload of indian call centre calls from "consumer group" supposedly doing a consumer questionnaire...

No amount of telling them to remove the telephone number from the database does any good whatsoever of course.

I've taken to asking them to hold on for a moment, then getting one of my son's annoying toys (a little train which sings a song ..."what kind of animals have you seen...La la la laa laa la") and playing it over and over down the phone. It's amazing how long the telephone scum That's what they are as far as I'm concerned!!!) will hold on whilst listening to it!!!
