My monitors are not great, and i have been having trouble getting this image to look how i envisaged it.

I have trolled the goggleverse and i think i have managed to calibrate my screens as well as they can be.

I was playing with a home made studio set, black back drop, black slate base plate and a single flash.
I wanted to just illuminate the side of this lens to make it stand out in the dark but with me having monitor issues its not coming out as i wanted.

Is this image too dark? Is the lens not exposed properly? Can you see the back drop or base?

The next thing i would like to ask what IPS monitors are there in the £100 - £200 bracket, i know we are at the mercy of the mods here and cannot talk
about screens from else where other that OCUK but my trust is set up so please message me if OCUK cannot fulfill my needs ;)

Many thanks Buzz

because on my screen it is as i want it to look, the only visible part is the side of the lens illuminated by the flash, but others say it looks too dark others say they can see the base and back drop
(exposed too much).... i cant see the back drop or base and the lens looks perfectly exposed?

am at a loose end :(

Going between my main display and my laptop display (from an LG W2363D to an alienware m17x r4 1920x1080 panel) I can see a little more on my laptop's screen (basically the cap at the bottom by a little bit, and a little more of the lens hood at the top) I wouldn't say that it's worth spending loads of money just to see that :p

You could just buy a monitor calibrator? Rather than a whole new monitor :p

There are digital ones that do it for you, all very high tech.

I can just about see the '24' on 24-105 if I look very closely.

Another possibility is to have a search on tinternet to see if anyone can post adjustments they've had to make to the same monitor? If it's a popular model then you might get lucky :P

Failing that, the only surefire way is to calibrate it :)

Near the red ring? If so then me too and mines calibrated with a Spyder 3 Elite if that makes any difference :D

I can see the bottom lens cap and a bit of the hood outline. If I'm not bang on square or move the image I can see the base too.

iPad 4 can just see the 105 above the red ring near the top, and Japan on the other side...

Also at the bottom can see the 50 on the LHS, and the reflection below the 70.

IMO its a little dark

I can see half the lens but it does look dark, needs more punch. Both screens here are calibrated. If it's something you will do often then invest in hardware calibration otherwise it will continue to be difficult.

I can just make out the 'W' on the hood, the 'EF' on the top of the lens, and the top of the hood, bottom cap and 'IMAGE ABILIZER'
Can't see any back drop or base(see below).

Can see some red in the picture that could be the base as it's roughly the shape I would imagine it being, can only see this after viewing in flickr with a black background and only after letting my eyes adjust for a min or so.
