This is probably a strange thread to post here, but I'm pretty sure that there are lots of practical people on these here boards that might be able to help me out.

My Gran is 90 in July and has finally given in and started using a walking stick. She has an old heirloom which rather than being the typical bendy handled walking stick, is more of a T shape at the top. She's been managing quite well with it, but recently, it's started to really hurt her hands and she's developing nasty hard skin where she puts her weight on the stick. I've suggested wrapping a bandage around it and sticking it with medical tape but she says that it looks ridiculous and she's not being seen with something that looks like that  she has her reputation to think about :p

So any of you got ideas about what to put on a stick to make it less painful to rest on?

Pipe insulation might work ok. Comes in various sizes, can be cut to fit and is just made of a dense foam so should make it more comfortable.

Edit: ach beaten and with a better solution too :o

How about something like the insulation foam you get around hot pipes?? Probably really badly explained but someone will know what i men and give you it's propper name :p

EDIT: Like Muban for example!! :D

Thanks for the suggestions guys I was wondering about the stuff that you put behind radiators to reflect the heat (or something) and the pipe insulation stuff sounds good ... I'll have a look - thanks :D

And El - yes she is a bit precious, my granny :D

Grannies rock !

When I had to use crutches they killed my hands so I put some of the binding stuff you get for tennis bats on the handles and then used some sweat bands :)
