Hi, ive got a number of someone who is sending me annoying texts and wont reveal there identity.

I dont want to report to police or block him/her but I want to know who it is.

How can I do this?

Call them from a household phone, block your number and ask them that you need their full name as they have been reported to the police.

Revise your script though, as you don't want to stutter :D

I can change the number and will do eventually, I can call the police but they wont reveal sod and if its unregistered they wont be bothered to find out who was behind its not exactly the crime of the century.

So I need to know the identity, so the person can be confronted.

You've got the number and you haven't posted it? Give me the number and 5 minutes on Craigslists personals and the tables will soon be turned.

Statistically you probably know this person so we probably only need a first name.

Use the first 5 digits and put them into google - This allows network identification (eg 07973 is orange) and you could possibly 141 call him (get a friend or partner to do it - they probably know your voice) pretending to be from their network abuse department. Request he confirms he is the registered owner of the phone as documented on his system and get him to confirm his first name and say as confirmation you will reply with his surname (hangup or have fun here - your choice) . You should be able to work out the rest.

If he transfered his number it won't be his current network though, you'll just have to claim you're on behalf of you if it comes to it.

Get a friend to do this:

Pranker: "Hello?"
Friend: "Hi is that Andrew Pierce?"
Pranker: "No"
Friend: "Oh sorry, I must've got the wrong number. What number is this?"
Pranker "07 blah blah blah"
Friend: "Hmm yeah that's what I've got written down. Who have I got through to?"

Worth a try anyway.

Some phones have an automatic blocking feature but you need to work out the *# codes to access it - most don't have it enabled in normal operating mode even if it exists tho.

You can get software tho for both windows mobile and android that can block incoming calls silently.

Doesn't really work anymore given the ease of number porting. A number that was originally could be on any network now..
