Pratchett Fans inside

Personally I preferred the artwork of the earlier books, they seemed in character with the stories. They were all painted by Josh Kirby, but unfortunately he died back in 2001 which is why the style of cover art has now changed.

For the people who were put off by the cover art you'll be happy to hear it's been replaced by some very grown up (and dull) black theme now.

It's not a Pratchett novel without a Kirby or Kidby cover.
I didn't realise until yesterday that Kirby also did some of my favourite Sci-fi cover art from the 50's and 60's - including a couple of Asimov book covers.

love the witches myself, very closely followed by the guards. i'm a big fan of all of the books and enjoy the standalones like moving pictures, pyramids, soul music and small gods.

I've got all the books, including the science of's, though i would like to collect them all in hardcover as some of my paperbacks are getting a little dog eared.

only got a couple of the maps and so on though and not got the newest edition of the companion.

and i much prefer the old style cover art myself.

I've been slowly (as time, money and space allows) been trying to get the hardbacks as well.
I read (and sometimes loan out) the paperbacks, but the hardbacks look so much nicer on the shelves.

same with me, my brother has a few of them though:( will have to pop pver and collect them at some point

Going Postal has to be my absolute favourite of them all, though I pretty much love every book in the series (with only a couple of exceptions). Not sure how easy it would be as a first introduction to the world though.. shouldn't be too bad I guess.

I love pratchett books and went to the same secondary school as him :D

I've recently just finished Thud and thought it was a very good read.

also recommend Monstorous regiment and good omens though good omens is not really a discworld novel

Good Omens has been mentioned a lot, and I agree that it's a great novel. No-one has mentioned co-author Neil Gaiman though.
If you liked Good Omens you should try Neverwhere or American Gods or the Sandman comic books.
