Looking for upgrade to keep me ticking over until 8800 drop in price.

Currently have 6800GT, but more juice needed. Around £150 max. Any ideas?

is that AGP or PCI-x?

if its PCI-x the only card your gonna get new that would even be worth the upgrade for 150 or less is a 7900GS...

if its AGP then your only option would be the x1950pro AGP that comes out very soon and thats more than 150... a 7600 wouldn't be a worthwhile upgrade for a 6800.

PCI-x ??

To the OP, have a look round for a 7900GTO or an X1950XT. Unless its AGP then maybe a X1950 Pro? I'd save the money for a 8800GTS.

stop being picky, gets on my nerves when people make pointless distinctions between pci-express and pci-x...

If you know the difference then don't make the mistake. It gets on my nerves when people can't get their facts straight. A pointless distinction, lmao, hardly.

PCI-X is a now obsolete replacement for PCI which was subsequently replaced by PCI-E. It was clear what he meant though.

no, its a faster version of pci for the server market, its still used quite a lot.

Roff, calm down mate, and you might want to remove your profanity. :)

I tend to use PCI-X as most GPUs come with either AGP or PCX on the box/marketting and more people seem to recognise what I'm talking about when I say it than when I say pci-e or pci-express...

I get pulled up on it every other day in IRC... was amusing at first but now its getting tiresome so I guess I'll just use PCX and have done with it...

Best not use PCI-X/PCX at all just serves to confuse you and others. Although PCI-X and PCI-E when spoken sound very similiar they are vastly different. :)

people who deal with servers are going to get annoyed when you say PCI-X rather than PCI-E as they ARE DIFFERENT.
normal people will think your just thick.
