pre-built system... what you think?

Hey bbK, regarding your specification.

The particular memory that you have chosen is a bit of an overkill. You only really need PC8500 memory if you are looking to overclock and a particular CPU that you have has a very low multiplier so the memory is able to keep up with the FSB (Front Side Bus). May I suggest either the OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2, which for the price it's currently selling at is unbeatable. If you are looking to overclock, you will be able to clock the Q6600 all the way up to 3.6GHz before you even have to touch the memory.

The other memory kit that you may be interested in is the OCZ 4GB (2 x 2GB) PC2-6400C5 Dual Channel Vista Gold Series DDR2, once again, for the price, you just cant beat it. However please be aware if you are looking to overclock and take the Q6600 above the 3.6GHz mark then do not get this particular memory since most of the 2X 2GB kits out their are very limited in terms of overclocking potential. (If you are looking to get the above memory then you will need a 64-bit Operating System to be able to utilize it all, more on that later though :p)

You will not need to buy any extra cables for your system since the motherboard will already come with the sufficient ones.

Final note, have you already got an Operating System? :)

Thanks for the info, regarding the memory it comes as part of this bundle ( http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-021-OK ) so thats why i chose that. and yes the reason i didn't plunge for the 4gb is because i heard, as you say you need a 64bit operating system (which currently i do not have.) im using Windows XP Pro.

*EDIT* oh ye and as for the cables, i wanted to get a set of blue ones or something to make it look tidier.

Ok i've again bloody changed it.

Hey bbK, sorry I wasn't trying to confuse you or anything like that, just open up your ideas up a bit more. :)

Your specification looks very good. A couple of things, if I may point out to you is the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme CPU Cooler doesn't come with a fan so you will need to purchase one separately. The Sharkoon Silent Eagle 2000 120mm Fan will be perfectly fine.

Very final note is regarding the specific edition of Windows Vista that you are looking to buy. Windows Vista Ultimate is very expensive and if you don't use any of the features that is has to offer over Home Premium it's money gone down the drain. Here is a great graph that compares all of the editions of Windows Vista with one another. :)

Thanks for the info mate, have taken the ultimate out and after looking at that link you posted i went with the home basic 64 bit version. The issue with the cooler having no fan i have a spare Noctua NF-S12 1200RPM 120mm Silent Case Fan so that should be sufficient so ill go ahead and order that spec, again thanks to everyone for the help.
