I have been asked to setup 20 new PC with the same hardware and windows installation.. they also need the same setting and drivers etc and also need the same software installed.

Am i able to create a windows installer that will run off a USB drive / DVD Rom and do a complete install and setup to my specification? I know a lot of big manufactureres do this but wanted to know if i can?

Or can i just copy a HDD image directly from 1 PC to another? ... any thoughts?

They will need:

Windows 7 64bit install
User Profile
Network / Domain Settings
VNC Setup
Autodesk Max 2011 installed
plus some other applciations pre-installed.

Are all the machines going to be running identical hardware? If this is the case then I would get one machine running as I wanted it and then just take a drive image to do the rest of them with. There's any number of programs you can use to do this with such as Acronis, Clonezilla, Norton Ghost etc etc.

Well.. i say identical hardware.. some have less ram and smaller HDDs.. but nothing that should affect windows providing it dosnt go wierd.

Ive seen that Windows 7 has its own drive image backup options. Have you tried this before?

If those computers are from the same company, Ie Dell, then there will be no problems.

Good stuff..

What would happen if they had different graphics cards? Would windows revert to default VGA driver on first boot? .. im pretty sure they are all running ATI 5870's but ill have to double check.
