With all this World Cup nonsense going on nobody remembered to start a thread for the return of real football. Keep chat around pre-season games in here please.

Klopp loves a pre-season friendly:

July 7th: Chester 0-7 Liverpool
July 10th: Tranmere - Liverpoool
July 14th: Bury - Liverpool (15:00)
July 19th: Blackburn - Liverpool (19:45)
July 22nd: Dortmund - Liverpool (21:05)
July 26th: Man City - Liverpool (01:05)
July 28th: Man Utd - Liverpool (22:05)
August 4th: Napoli - Liverpool (18:00)
August 7th: Liverpool - Torino (19:30)

Currently 3-0 up vs Tranmere at HT.

Just under an hour until our 4th pre-season game kicks-off vs Blackburn. A penny for Karius' thoughts as he starts in goal :/

I know it's pre-season but I think I'm going to have to order myself a Keita 8 shirt soon. He was really impressive today, gliding around the pitch making everything look so easy.

Karius is shot to bits, he needs a long break before he plays again. It wasn't just the save for the 3rd goal but in the first half he's came miles out of his area to sweep up behind our defence and then passes it straight to a Dortmund player.

Not overly fussed about our general performance in friendlies, especially the 2nd half where there was no real structure to the side. On an individual basis it's so hard not to be impressed with Keita though and Curtis Jones looks to have a big future ahead of him too.

We surely can't go in to the season with him as our backup can we?

Club and player need to part ways fast but who would take him for the kind of money we would want?

He seems desperate to get the ball away from him as fast as humanly possible but there seems to be no connection between his brains and hands when he does that. It's almost blind panic takes over him.
Providing Alisson is fit and available for every game for the first few months then it gives Karius the break he needs and I think he can be our backup. Sods law is Alisson gets injured after a week and Karius ends up straight back in the side though.

We won't sell him because nobody will pay us anything to make it worthwhile and are we going to sign another keeper this summer to loan Karius out? I'm not sure.

The guy is shot to bits. He needs a long break from the spotlight to get his head right and as importantly for the focus on him to shift away. A few months on the sidelines and then bring him in for a League Cup game against a League One side then sell him next season.

Salah's 5 minutes into his pre-season - scored with his 2nd touch, had a header cleared off the line and just hit the bar.

edit: Liverpool 2-1 Man City FT

I know it's just pre-season and they have more to play for but City's kids were really impressive in the first half and we were quite lucky to come in at 0-0. They faded in the 2nd half and when Salah came on they couldn't cope with him, Mane and Solanke but they've got some handy players there. Curtis Jones really looks at home in the first team for us - he's got bags of ability, physically he's a lot more prepared for senior football than most 17 year olds but it's his composure that really impresses me. He looks like he's been playing at this level for years.

That's your opinion, the lino clearly disagreed :p

And yea, off the line wasn't quite right but it was easier to type that on my phone at 2.30am than 'a goal bound effort blocked 4 yards off the line'. It was going in either way and Salah looked really sharp on his return.

How did Foden play?
He done ok but I wouldn't say he stood out over and above any of the other City players. It was very much a collective performance from City's youngsters in the first half - they played exactly how you'd expect a Pep team to play.

8 goals in 6 months is nothing to write home about. His attitude stank from the back end of his last full season right through until he left. I'm sure you remember that he was dropped for the game at Anfield towards the end of the 16/17 season.

Jose saying its Liverpool vs Man United kids despite starting 6 lads over the ages of 28. Hes such a tool.
Average of Utd's kids - 25.6 years old. Average of Liverpool's first team - 25.5 years old. Standard Mourinho to play down expectations on him and put pressure on the opposition, thankfully as Pigeon says, everybody knows he's full of **** these days.

Played reasonably well but there's too much of a pre-season attitude to our game. We should be 2 or 3 ahead but we're lacking an edge in attack, constantly overplaying or taking things too easy.
He got a push in the back but he then did a ridiculously over elaborate dive.
When you're running and get pushed in the back, you're going to fall over. It was a clear foul to anybody with fully functioning eyesight.

No of course, he just 'fell over'
So he was fouled. As I'm sure you've seen, as I've been consistent with this for years and years, even defending Utd players, I've always said that if a player is fouled they have every single right to go to ground because they won't be given the foul if they stay on their feet. And specifically on this instance, if you're running and get pushed in the back, you're going to end up on your arse. You on the other hand, scream and shout when you believe an opposition player has dived and call for them to be retrospectively banned but go MIA when a Utd player dives ;)
Mata unfortunate with 2 goals ruled offside. No I don't buy it you should be 2 or 3 ahead. More play in final 3rd I grant you bit 2 3 goals better, wind it in
Scoring a goal because you were offside doesn't really count for a great deal. Had Mata not been offside he wouldn't have had the chance. Liverpool have been comfortably the better side but just been almost complacent in the final third. You don't half get touchy during Liverpool - Utd games Loki ;)
