Day 1 - Had a kickabout in the park with old trainers and got a big blister on left big toe.

Day 2 - Had training with new boots, got a blister on the other toe and first blister got worse.

I'm not asking for medical advice about the blisters, but is there anything to prevent them, like an extra pair of socks?

Haven't suffered with them before but I think it's because the ground is rock solid and I haven't played properly since the under 16's. Looks like the first one is going bad ways (puss) - great start so far.

So any ideas to prevent them or is just my feet getting used to playing again? All the footwear fits fine.

I either train/play through them, or if they do go bad I completely chop the skin off and tape up the wound when playing. My feet are are a mess, blisters don't affect me anymore.

Always get these with new boots and trainers. Extra socks don't really help. I found that if i tightened up my boots that extra bit and then played in them, they weren’t as bad, however my feet were white afterwards :o After a few games the boot gets used to the contours of your feet and mould in so you wont get that many blisters.

there is literally nothing you can do. I suffer pretty badly with blisters. The whole of the bottom of my feet blister up (around the balls of the feet) and on the big toes, extra socks do help at times, but i've tried every thing, happens on every pair of shoes. Extra socks, talcum powder, vaseline, new soles, comfort soles, with the boots fastened up and stuff.

Play through them, eventually the bottom of your feet will be either too hard to give you problems, or you will justignore them

An old hikers' trick is to wear this super-thin nylon dress socks under your regular socks. They sell fancy socks at sporting stores for this purpose but the dress socks will do just as well. The liner socks fit closer and tighter to your skin. They are slippery and the shoe and main sock will slide against it instead of sliding against your foot.

I'm not 100% sure it will fix your problem but I think it'd be worth a try.

same problem, except I got 2 normal blisters on one ancle, and basicly peeled the skin off my left ankle, I cannot even walk in shoes, been wearing slippers to work! Ive even tried packing my vans full of bog roll, just pain as soon as I put my foot down. any tips for getting rid of it ASAP? I think I will tape up my ankles for playing footie from now on! I have always suffered around the ancles.
Also reccomendations on comfy Astro's would be good I have nike total 90's at the mo, but they are shredding my ankles!

My feet are great. My ex used to get really annoyed at me because I have nicer feet than her and she paid to get them sorted and also went at hers with a pummice stone :p

Firstly, by boots that fit you, don't buy them because they're alright fitting and look nice.

Secondly, wear the right boots for the right occasion. If you're playing on hard ground wear footwear that has been designed for hard ground.

Thirdly, wear sports socksunder shinnies under footy socks. Works for me :) I would never use the above technique with the dress socks inside the footy socks so they rub together instead of on your foot. Gives a lack of grip and you move about inside your boots even if they fit well.

deffo, small socks on. then shinpads over the top, and then football socks over the top of that. i have played a LOT of football over the last 3 weeks with boots that are not perfect and i dont have a single blister...

alright the socks dont smell to great but i dont wash em so;)

Nice one, thanks.

According to Google the cause is probably dodgy socks causing friction and not soaking up enough sweat and/or bad fitting boots. I was wearing really thin socks and the footie one's were quote loose so that probably explains it.

I used to do that one pair under the shinpads trick when I played before too. Me forgetting has lead to a nice infected blister and a night off work. :p

yeah that is the way to minimise them.

although i do recommend washing your socks :p

Moleskin is heavy cotton.
Indeed. Depending on the size of the blister, using moleskin can help you keep your blister from getting aggravated when you're still playing.

To use it, take the moleskin cloth and cut a toroidal shape out of it with scissors so that the void in the center surrounds your blister and does not touch it. Tape it on with sturdy medical tape and put your socks, shoes, etc. back on. The extra thickness around the blister should keep whatever was rubbing the area from undergoing further damage until you can let it heal properly.

I'm going to have to start giving some of these suggestions a go now. Played my first pre-season friendly tonight and the back of my heel is killing me.

The two pairs of socks method definitely helps but get a good pair to put on first i.e running socks. Normal footie socks tear your feet to bits. The running socks should help with the sweating that leads to your foot slipping in the boot then the blister.

For your heels, heel grip type plasters before you play should stop the boot slipping up and down as well.

Superglue.

No, seriously!

As long as you haven't got "raw meat" showing, remove the top flap of skin, clean it up and let it dry out thoroughly. Then put a couple of thin layers of super glue over it. You'll be able to carry on playing with minimal discomfort while your toes heal and the skin toughens up.

Just go for normal socks under football socks. Works for me, I get them on the balls of my feet otherwise.

Also antiperspirant works quite well as mentioned. :o
