Pre-SP2 detection?

Bought a Spinpoint 250gb today. Bios detects it as 250gb but when I boot the windows (pre sp1+2) setup disc it only detects 131069mb. I've been told that pre SP2 windows has trouble detecting larger HDD's and has to be partitioned and formatted inside windows after installation. Anyone able to confirm this?

Yup. You have to install SP2, then go into Control panel>Administrative tools> Computer management>Disk management and partition and format the remaining space. If you want to be able to access the whole disk from the start, you have to slipstream SP2 onto the windows install disk, using something like Nlite.

...and if you're one of the SP2 doubters, you can get away with SP1a only which also contains the LBA 48bit fix
