Hi,

From all the threads requesting advice, I'd guess you guys should be paid for your services! :D

I am a complete novice when it comes to gaming PC's, although I do know a little terminology. I don't really know where to start so was hoping for some guidance.

I'm looking for a pre-built system that would play games such as BF3, ARMA 2/DayZ and Skyrim at maximum settings and for the lowest price possible (doesn't everyone?). I would be looking for one ideally with a monitor, although this isn't a necessity.

I'm so unfamiliar with prices etc that I don't have an idea how much a machine like this would cost. Ideally, I'd be happy with a machine under £1000 (as low a price from this as possible) and one that would possibly be upgradable in future. Sorry for the huge, novel-like request and my expectations if they are unrealistic. Any advice, suggestions etc would be very gratefully received.

i have not built a pc for some time
over 5 years i think
so i am totally out of touch with the latest kit, what i did was have a look around the forums and see what people are using and their opinions on it, then the fun part, playing with the configurator, i say fun as i am now narrowed down to about 10 choices lol

for full systems, then use the link,

keep in mind the more you pay, the better you play, but it's not always the case.

a full system will cost a few £ more but will give you less headache in the end, as building your own doesn't always work well, sometimes a part comes dead it happens, for me i'd get the best spec for the £1000 you want to spend.

for me the cpu is the heart of the beast, but you also need a brain

so a i5 or i7 mid range 4 core is plenty and amd offer good price per cost etc so don't rule them out, 6 core is ok, but no games will use them so it's over kill as yet, (dont plan on it lasting 2 years) as in 6 months something half the price will be out and twice as quick)

go for 8gb of ram 16 is nice but most wont use it or need it

a good vga card as this will let you play most stuff like at its best, dont buy the latest as the cost is always high for the extra you get, something mid ranged is better as can be upgraded in a year or so easily yourself

now comes to the bit which most may disagree with, a solid state drive do rock, but cost per mb are still high so if on a budget, get a normal drive for now and wait till price drops some more as it will, it comes coming down all the time.

To be able to run games like BF3 happily on max you won't have to pay anymore than £750. (without monitor)

I'm sure someone will be a long with a spec for you shortly, I'd do it myself but I'm at work.

Thanks very much for all the replies guys, I'm gonna have a look at the suggestions made so far. Obviously the news that it could be done for approx £750 is good to hear :)

It would be great if I could even build a system that would play BF3 and Dayz comfortably off the bat, and then upgrade components in the near future. I'm gonna play around with the configurator today, if any does have build suggestions for around the £750 mark, that'd be much appreciated.

They can change any of the components except for the processor in the system. If you don't see the components you want in the drop down lists then you just phone up once you have purchased to make any changes.

With the above Titan, I was wondering if it would play recent games (BF3 and Skyrim mainly) decently when upgrading the GPU to the Sapphire HD 7950?

Oh, and thanks again everyone for the replies, I'm learning a lot from just reading about all these components.
