Predator: Badlands

I’ve never had any issues watching AvP either, he second on the other hand was truly awful to watch and that’s for many reasons.

Are you referring to the original AVP or the follow-up, requiem because that's dark AF. AVP i watched the other night and its fine in terms of darkness, requiem is incredibly dark on the other hand and hard to watch.
It might well be the second one, I mainly remember it as being nearly impossible to see anything it left that little impression on me, which I'm still disappointed about as the Aliens films, and the AvP books and comics have been some of my favourites for decades.

The only really good predator movie is the Arnie original. The sequel with Danny Glover wasn't actually too bad though. The rest, well the less said the better. Worst of the lot was that Shane black film, surely one of the worst films I have ever seen :p

Predator 2 does have a few good scenes but as you said the original is the best

Deffo the second one as its dark everywhere and ends with a bomb getting dropped on the city. The first one is half decent.

I finally got around to seeing this, had some free time so I nipped into the local cinema while out.

It very much feels like wasted potential to me, far too much out of place humour and what I can only describe as Disney-esque/MCU style silliness and jokes. I found the main female character annoying more often than not, which is no fault of Elle Fanning but clearly down to the writing.

Legitimate shame as there were some excellent scenes, I enjoyed the start and found the glimpses into Predator culture on the big screen interesting especially. The Wayland Yutani parts were a bit of a mixed bag, good at times but I feel the synthetics were poorly utilised and their capabilities weirdly inconsistent.

Overall I'd give it a 5.5-6.0/10, a lot less silliness and more mature and visceral themes would have went a long way.

Just got back from watching this at the cinema. It was alright, not as good as I hoped it to be. I can definitely see the Disney-esque elements that some have described, which the style isn't bad in itself, but I personally don't think it fit in with what Predator has been. This and other stuff in the film might also explain the 12a age rating, compared to the higher ratings of the older films.

I'd give it a 6/10. It's a unique take for sure.

Also, an off topic rant here, but I think I regret going to the cinema today for this. Although several seats away, there was somebody sat in the corner of the back row by themselves, doomscrolling on their phone with the brightness so high while sniffling and coughing throughout. Fair enough they've sat themselves as far away as possible, but it can still be noticed and just very distracting from the film honestly. Not sure why you would pay to go to the cinema if you're clearly ill and are only interested in your phone screen. Degrading cinema experience :(

Zero excuse for that, if he (she?) needed to be on his phone he could have left the room. There's literally 3-4 different warnings about exactly what you're describing before the movie even starts.

I'd have said something to him personally, or at the least went and spoken with staff which would hopefully have resulted in him being kicked out.

one of the reason behind the 12a rating is because all the blood in the film is either white or green, as it only aliens and sync being killed.

yup

as long as it's not red you can have basically the same scene and it'll be rated significantly lower.

So someone getting shot and blood and it'll be 15, something with it's guts hanging out and it's white "lubricant" and it'll be a 12.
Just the dangling bit of "spine" on one of the characters that is shown repeatedly would likely have lifted the rating at least one band if that character had been human and it had been shown for just a few seconds once.

Anyone remember when Carmageddon 2 was released, if you bought the original version of the game with the "green blood" it was 15, but IIRC you could download the "blood patch" to make it red blood, and when it got rereleased about a year later with the red blood it was an 18.

6/10

It was going quite well, they should have had a few more aliens (not xenos) before fighting Kalisk. Even should have had a capable alien giving difficulty. The other synths seemed really dumb and taken out like human fodder. When Tessa kills Kalisk, she should have been targeting the Yautja 1st not Thia. I thought he would take the head of Kalisk to his father. Instead he beats seasoned warriors relatively easily. Imo it went south when Tessa was too involved in the plot. There some funny moments which wasn't too bad.

I never knew this was out, watched a trailer and thought the first comment was good, the craziest adaptation of banjo kazooie I could have ever anticipated :D

As soon as I saw the design of the "Predator" and the introduction of the "cute" little monster sidekick, I knew this was going to be ****.

But alas, I bit the bullet and decided to watch it at home last night (hoping to be proved wrong), and it was indeed ****.
