Ok, so I have a 7600GT with a 3GHz dual core on an SLi motherboard. I'm soon getting an HX620W PSU to replace a no-branded 300W PSU to run a powerful graphics card(s).
Now, I want to run games at 1600x1200 (native on my 21" CRT) with 2/4xAA and 16AF. That includes Crysis, sure its badly coded, but it still looks amazing! I live in Hong Kong and here is what I can get the cards for with the current exchange rate today.
GTX280 - £314.93
9800GTX SLI - £292.21
9800GX2 1GB - £251.95
8800GTS 512MB SLI - £212.99
GTX260 - £204.55
8800GT 512MB SLI - £176.62
4870 512MB - £161.78
9800GTX - £146.10
9600GT 512MB SLI - £136.36
9600GSO SLI (softmodded*) - £125.95
8800GTS 512MB - £106.49
4850 512MB - £98.70
8800GT 512MB - £88.31
9600GT - £68.18
9600GSO (softmodded*) - £62.99
Cheap, huh!
* The GSO has a chance of being softmodded to a 8800GTS with the relevant BIOS. It was in a thread on here a while back. The card is definitely the one as it includes the 0.8ns RAM onboard.
So anyway, i'm thinking the 4870X2 would be worth waiting for and that would save the hassle of getting a new motherboard, but i'm not sure if it'll be priced as nicely as the rest of the 4000 series.
What would you do, which price looks the most attractive. Noise and power consumption are irrelevant due to aftermarket coolers and HK's cheap electricity price.
