Prelude Dolby Digital Live

Even on the Logitech Z-5500, when you're hooked up via analog, it says on the Decoder 96-24.

Yeah thanks, set it to 96-24 and now no more "static" :)

Nice to have all 5 speakers working again and just connected via SPDIF.

I see RC5 has been released.

New Changes / Fixes in RC5 driver
ㆍ Corrects "Error I-001" seen by some users with RC4 driver.

File Information:
ㆍDriver version: X-Fi Prelude - RC5
ㆍSize: 150 mb
ㆍRelease Date: 12/28/2007

Whatever that error is.

Can I be an idiot and ask for your setup - Ive ordered the card with the Z5400 and just need to know what cables I need to buy to ensure everything that comes out of my PC sound-wise is as good as its going to get...

TIA

ps3ud0

Well if the Z5400 are anything like the Z5450 you will have an optical in, then just connect this to your card with the optical cable supplied, job done!

Now I'm not sure if this is a problem or not but if I select 24 bit, 192000 Hz :-

I hear the music but there is "static", this is with "Dolby Digital Live" enabled.

HEADRAT

where the hell is that option in xp? cant seem to find anywhere to set it to 24-96

No idea I don't have XP ;)

So how do I get this card to just output over optical without enabling dolby digital live, e.g. just to output stereo sound over SPDIF?

I'm having problems when other programmes want to use the SPDIF passthrough, it seems that the drivers still want to pass it through the dolby digital live encoder?

if you wanna use SPDIF for movies you unselect DD live and then use your dvd player and have it select SPDIF. IT doesnt touch it if you do it like that. That what I been doing. It not point having DD live re-encoding a dvd movie which is already encoded in Digital any way.

Have you got EAX enabled within the game?

edit: scrap that, forgot these cards were actually X-Fi chips with full EAX support. Might be worth playing with those settings anyway.

The only option I can see are to enable/disable OPENAL, if I disable it I don't get any surround sound, if I enable it I get surround sound (over optical cable) but it pops/crackles/drops out etc.
