Hey all,

I've been told today that I may have to stay away at a Premier Inn all of next week for work - after checking it out, the place has wi-fi and it says it can be supplied "for a little cost".

Anyone have any idea what the "little cost" is and how long you get it etc.

I'm bringing a laptop - can't live without net access for a week :p

Thanks!

Marky

From the looks of things, it's about £5 per hour and I've found one person on the net saying you can get a day rate of £12.

£5/Hour or £12/Day

That's £48 for the week  That sucks

Any other ideas on how I can get my internet fix?

Hmm just took a quick look at the dongles on OcUK - They have a deal at the moment for 3GB for £33...

Are these dongles reliable? Are they very fast?

On the flip side it's quite amusing to log on to the wifi and browse everybodies shared documents, just try and resist deleting crucial windows files from those idiots who have their entire C drive shared ;)

I got a tmobile one from the shop. 19 pound, with £10 credit, and did a £2 'day' top up and it gave me 30 days free, leaving me £8 still on it.

I tested bandwidth and got I think a meg down and about .7 meg up or something. It comes with software to manage it, send texts, and monitor yoru bandwidth. It seems to use some kind of proxy as when browsing I get the choice when I hover an image to press Shift R to download a full def cop. It's kind of like operas turbo mode.

I visited one page of the animated gif thread, and realised that it has about 25 meg of data on it.

Works fine for ssh tunnelled rdp, browsing, downloading, everything really. Didn;t test games.

And I believe T mobile is the only one that won't cut your off/charge you more if you exceed the FUP, which I think is 1GB a month. They just throttle you, AIUI.

Bought it earlier this year when I stayed in one.

Was around £12 for 24 hours, and I believe I speedtested it at around 300Kbit, so it's clearly throttled to prevent people mass downloading on it.

Good enough for browsing though.

I know a big blue supermarket has a good deal on a 3 dongle at the moment for 3GB useage! :o

Interesting! Might have to check it out ;)

I've looked at the T-Mobile site and it says £8.99 +£10 Top-Up (http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/mobile-broadband/pay-per-day/)

Does this mean I pay £8.99 and it comes with £10 Top-Up (Which would last me a week as it's £7 for the week!) or do I pay £18.99?

This certainly sounds like the best deal at the moment - I checked the post code and it says it offers "Excellent Coverage" there...

Stuff paying £12 for a day, especially with it being throttled to such a slow speed :(

That looks like the one I bought - 18.99, it will cost you 18.99 up front.. But they are running promotion as it says, if you buy £2 (which is deducted from your £10 top up, think of your top up more in terms of credits which your 'redeem') they'll give you 30days (i.e. 29 'free' days. I think the offer ends tomorrow ! i.e. end of the month...

tbh, may be worth checking out the area on google maps,
one down here is next to a costa with free wifi (gotspot) the signal strenth on the free one covers 99% of the hotel!
