Premier League All Star Game

I know its all about money, but the Champions league, just keep it for the champions of each league, non of this second-forth place stuff, bring back the cup winners cup, get rid of the carabo and charity shield. Then each country does a All star match voted by the fans, press etc and the money made just distribute it among the lower leagues for each country.

Meh, I'm probably talking crap but theres too many games these days. Just streamline the lot.

The problem with an 'All Star' football game is that it's supposed to be a showcase of talent in its guise in US sports. Now I don't watch NFL / NHL / MLB all star games but I do watch NBA when I can.

NBA have faced issues recently where they've had to change the format of the game and how the scoring is done to make them interesting and competitive, they've also had to give big (not ridiculous) bonuses to players to get them to play in the All Star game, players would rather take the rest / not risk injury.

Those would be massive hurdles for football on their own.

Back to the showcase element, it's very very easy to do that on a basketball court. Defense drops off, players don't put in lots of effort so it's easy for players to throw up a few half court shots or do nice dunks on a fast break etc. Football is completely different. It's very hard to artificially create a wow moment, what would happen the ref gives generous free kicks so KDB can try a 30 yard rabona free kick? Or defenders drop off so Mo Salah can try an overhead kick from the edge of the area - which of course he wouldn't try incase he got injured trying something stupid. Imagine seeing Bernado Silva doing a bunch of step overs and tricks and ghosting past a defender, but he hasn't done that because he's fooled the defender it's because the defender has put in zero effort. It would look crap and completely unnatural from a footballing perspective.

It would basically be like a glorified Soccer Aid.

As long as there are penalties that start with a dribble from half way, players selected on stats, hot dogs and crazy mascots, half time show with mega stars and adverts every time the ball goes out of play. I'm in.

Edit: in all seriousness, we haven't had a PL season without disruption for 3 seasons now. Maybe it isn't the time to be looking at more fixtures.

You know its a carp idea when the likes of Leicester, Saints, Forest think its a bad idea because of all the games teams play and they won't have anyone in the allstar game so won't affect them.

Will just be another game on Man City and Liverpool's cards and a few London clubs.

We already have "All Star" games, they're called internationals.

But they are not. They are the best we could do with the players we have at our disposal matches. Italy and England got to the last finals. Both teams wouldn't get out of the group stages of the CL or finish in the top 6 of the PL.

It's a stupid idea, for most of my life managers have had players pull out of International friendlies. I don't see Liverpool and City loaning half their squad out for this. They would have to get a bye into the later rounds of the cups or some other preferential treatment. An extra £300m in the FFP pot ;)

Max 2/3 from each side would make it interesting.

What a clown but what’s more scary and concerning is that he thinks Chelseas academy produced Salah and KdB. He’s also wanting to make Chelsea have feeder clubs and freely talked about that as well. Which isn’t allowed.

Not great, think we have to get an in depending regulator in like what GNev keeps harping on about.
